The Val Venosta apple harvest and commercialization both in domestic and foreign market has begun in September with the early variety Gala in the lower areas of the valley, and then continue with the main varieties such as Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Jonagold and Kanzi Pinova as well. «We estimate a standard harvest - says Josef Wielander, director of VI.P, the Cooperative Association of Val Venosta - a total of around 330 to 340,000 tons, with a production on average with the five-year trend. Fruits are of excellent quality: from the point of view of color, pressure, sugar content and acidity are perfectly in line with the high quality standards of VI.P».
Today VI.P is present in 48 different markets (including the main Italy, Germany, Scandinavia, Spain and the Mediterranean), with exports accounting for about 45% of the turnover. «Export has become very important - says Zanesco, sales manager VI.P. The domestic market remains the first priority and selling industry, but a significant part of our production is conveyed on European markets and beyond. We need to maintain our share in Europe, but obviously we're looking at every new area of expansion, in this sense, in addition to popular destinations such as Russia, Africa and the Middle East are becoming a vital point for any development strategy for the next decade».
