A small consortium with big numbers that marks a very positive production. This is the case of the Salumi Pdo Piacentini Consortium that with Pancetta Piacentina and Coppa Piacentina ended 2016 with + 10% in terms of produced units. Salame Piacentino, strong during last years, declined slightly.
In detail, Salame Piacentino PDO recorded an output of 1,473,945 pieces; Pancetta Piacentina PDO instead amounts to 138,435 pieces and Coppa Piacentina PDO to 420,582 pieces. The total of Cold Cuts PDO Piacentini products was therefore of 2,032,962 pieces.
Antonio Grossetti, president of the Consortium, emphasizes that behind these positive numbers there is a great entrepreneurial ability of the companies. “Our members in recent years have seen a steadily increase of production costs, while sales prices were unchanged. Nevertheless they managed to withstand and to counter the difficult period. This means that the market has rewarded the quality eventually”.
Piacenza is an excellence in the agri-food sector and Piacenza salami are a credit to Emilia Romagna and made in Italy. “On the export front our main partners are in Europe. Germany, Britain and France are definitely at the top of our rankings. We have hopes for the American market but now with the Trump policy I don’t know if our products will be exported soon or if we will have to wait more” he added.
