Olio di Calabria is now a Pgi as stated in the Official Journal of the European Union of December the 20th.
"Everything fits into the bigger picture to stimulate and to enhance the trade of extra vergin oils of excellence, that Unasco has set itself for years" commented Luigi Canino, president of the National association of growers and oil producers.
"Now we need to form a consortium for the protection of the PGI brand to promote it and to offer it in the market in the best way” Canino added.
The PGI certification of Olio di Calabria follows by a few weeks the change of the EU regulation that recognizes the physical-chemical quality of Carolea and Coratina varieties as a peculiar expression of the territory.
